On Thursday, August 2, the VTA Board of Directors voted to discontinue Express Light Rail Service in order to reduce operating costs. The scheduled date for discontinuation is October 8, 2018.

For the past eight years VTA has operated six express trains on the Alum Rock-Santa Teresa line, three during the morning commute period and three during the afternoon commute period. The express service saves customers four minutes in travel time by skipping stops between Convention Center and Ohlone/Chynoweth.

Regular light rail service will continue to run every 15 minutes, with stops at each station throughout the system. If this service change results in a capacity issue, VTA can add a car to the regular trains as needed.

If you have additional questions about this service change, please email VTA Customer Service at Customer.Service@vta.org, or call (408) 321-2300.
